Production Chaining and Chain of Values Workshop in Holguin

With the presence of Alejandro Miguel Gil Fernandez, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning in Cuba, the Production Chaining and Value Chain Workshop was held in Holguin, sponsored by the Food Production and Distribution Company (Numa) and the Association of Economists and Accountants, which will celebrate its National Day on November 26.

The event, held as part of the Scientific-Production Day of Economics and Planning, was also attended by the highest political and governmental authorities of the province.

During their sessions at ExpoHolguín fair and trade grounds, Numa specialists and executives presented experiences and achievements obtained thanks to the production linkage with new economic actors, among them several MSMEs of the territory, achieving with this relationship the production of 11,689 tons of food products.

It was reported that the purchase of raw materials has allowed the elaboration and production of several products, as well as new offers from agricultural productions.

Gil Fernández explained that some state-owned companies have been transforming their own mission with the leasing of premises, they charge a rent and that is enough, but this is not a production chain.

To cite an example, companies that do not export, and that operate within the territory, access the currency through an alleged linkage with a MSMEs, which acquires goods by purchasing currency in the informal market, which causes distortion of the social purpose and high prices in the sale of products.

The also member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba said that we cannot legalize what is illegal and that is everyone’s responsibility, just as the productive chain should not be based on imports and resale.

This is not a solution that depends on an economic will, the real thing is in the increase of productions, a true productive chain, where we all participate, the State and the new economic actors that are also ours, because their owners and workers mostly come from our business system, he said.

According to Gil Fernandez, the unsatisfied demand is an opportunity for the Cuban economy, the way is to produce, in the productive chain because we have installed capacity and human resources, which can even encourage foreign investment.

He pointed out that the good experiences that exist in some territories must be multiplied in the municipalities, because local development strategies can offer better results that are reverted in the macro economy of the country.
