Holguin: Exchange on challenges of Journalism in the face of AI

With a call to gather new energies and innovative ideas to face the challenges and maximize the opportunities offered by the technological evolution with AI, was inaugurated the VII National Symposium of Journalism Apunto 2024, which will be held in the city of Holguin from this Wednesday until March 29.

The opening ceremony took place in the Provincial Library ¨Alex Urquiola¨ with the presence of students and professors of the University of Holguin, as well as political authorities of the province.

Bárbara de los Milagros Sicilia Rojas, head of the Social Communication Department at the university, said that the symposium is one of the most recognized and stable national meetings in the academic field since its creation.

Journalism challenges in the face of AI to be discussed in Holguín

Apunto, conceived as an event for dialogue and reflection, proposes on this occasion to exchange on the challenges of Journalism in the face of Artificial Intelligence (AI), in a context whose opportunities speed up the work and leave on the table concerns about ethics, responsibility, neutrality and truthfulness.

Rojas stressed that the variety of issues to be addressed will allow collective enrichment, from different perspectives, but aligned in the common purpose of achieving revolutionary changes in education and the profession.

At the beginning of the day’s activities, the Holguin Technological Center hosted the specialized panel, with the presentation of lectures, which addressed the main computer tools provided by AI, its development possibilities in journalism and audiovisual production.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), the future of journalism

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay in newsrooms. For some years now, few in fact, the media have been exploring the different possibilities of using this tool. Although it is not new, it has increasingly more space in journalistic tasks that previously demanded a significant amount of time from the reporter and that, thanks to the development of algorithms that automate tasks, it is possible to do more agile.
