Díaz-Canel: Generalize Holguín’s experiences in food production

The need to generalize the good experiences that currently used in the province of Holguin for food production and other areas was highlighted by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and high-ranking officials of his government.

The president concluded a government visit to this northeastern territory, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa, as well as deputy prime ministers and several other leaders.

During two days, working commissions were deployed to visit some 200 economic and social objectives and talked with more than 600 inhabitants of the province with the food issue and local development in the focus of the governmental delegation.

The head of state checked the potentialities in each place to effectively address the priority given to food production, which demands an adequate implementation of the Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security Law.

“The food sovereignty plan must be at the territory level, as we appreciate in the municipality of Cacocum; in each place must be known the agricultural lines that will be produced and where they will be marketed to satisfy in the shortest possible time the demands of the population,” he said.

As part of his tours, the President of the Republic, accompanied by the Minister of Construction, René Mesa Villafaña, visited Médano, a state-owned socialist enterprise for the production of building materials. There, the director of the manufacturing entity, Yunior Pupo, presented the main results of the entity in a range of productions among which stand out stones for building, sand, blocks and floor elements like tiles, and household utensils of high popular demand.

Médano develops multiple projects in a systematic link with the local university and maintains production chains with other state and private entities, which has a favorable impact on the workers’ salaries, explained Pupo.

The businessman stressed to the Cuban head of state that the company fulfills its responsibilities with the community where it is located, builds houses for its workers and implements projects that promote the program for the Advancement of Women.

Díaz-Canel also toured Turquino fruit and vegetable canning factory, where he learned about the entity’s linkage with land producers and the company’s ties with other mini-industries in the region.
