In Holguin health sector rejoices as May Day nears

Plenary meetings have been held for several days in Holguin province by the Health Workers Union -with a membership of more than 29 thousand members- with the goal of getting to know the sector’s preparations and initiatives for May Day parade.

According to Annia Cuenca Montero, secretary general of the Provincial Health Workers Union, the call was launched at the Provincial Blood Bank with very good representation and plenary meetings have been held at hospital institutions and the University of Medical Sciences.

“Our union is also engaged in the 22nd Congress of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC), in the strengthening of the sections. We recently concluded the process referred to the rectification of distortions, the issue of the economy plan.”

The union leader added that they have also been immersed in the days for the Nursing Workers’ Day, in volunteer work in support of food production, in sanitation days and blood donations organized by the CTC.

As for the way in which the Health block, the ninth to parade, has been organized, they have the purpose of reaching the first place in the emulation of the unions.

Cuenca Montero reiterated the sector’s unity and commitment to the people’s health and to the quality of services and stressed that they are arriving at this proletarian ephemeris with a mortality rate of 4.6 per 1,000 live births.

“We will be amply represented in the Plaza de la Revolución Calixto García Íñiguez, leading the parade by the General Directorate of Health together with our director, Dr. Julio Yamel Verdecia Reyes; Dr. Luis Orlando Castro González and the secretary of the Province. We will parade in a compact block with 46 entities, plus the three provincial hospitals and our block will be closed by the young people from the University of Medical Sciences and the Nursing branch”.

The celebration of the International Workers’ Day, this 2024 adopts the slogan “For Cuba together we create” and coincides with the organic process prior to the 22nd Congress of the CTC, with not few challenges to meet such as the economic recovery of the country and the implementation of the Government’s projections to correct distortions and boost the economy.

Likewise, the activities carried out to celebrate the World Proletariat Day pay tribute to the legacy of union leaders such as Lázaro Peña, Jesús Menéndez, Aracelio Iglesias, Armando Mestre and Alfredo López and commemorate the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the 171st anniversary of the birth of José Martí and the 85th anniversary of the founding of the CTC.
