Valdés Mesa and Chapman inaugurated social works in Holguín

Salvador Valdés Mesa, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Vice President of the Republic, and Inés María Chapman, deputy prime minister, inaugurated on Tuesday in Holguín social works in salute to May Day, International Workers’ Day.

The three hospitals in the head of the northeastern territory benefited from the construction of areas and the introduction of modern equipment, including a new neonatology ward at the Vladimir Illich Lenin University Teaching Hospital.

At the opening ceremony, Valdés Mesa underlined the importance of these contributions aimed at preserving the revolutionary achievement that is Public Health, its vitality to provide Holguin peoples with quality medical attention and the high value of the country’s professionals in science, technology and innovation.

In addition to this work in the sector, there is a new hemodialysis service with 18 modern equipment and three cubicles at Lucía Íñiguez Surgical Clinic, and the Microbiology Laboratory at the Octavio de la Concepción and Pedraja Pediatric Hospital.

Julio Yamel Verdecia, director general of Health in the territory, explained that 23 projects were completed in the province for the proletariat celebration, including 14 family medical clinics in six municipalities and five polyclinics, which had an investment of more than 100 million Cuban pesos.

During the event, a loading center for 20 electric tricycles was also inaugurated, which will favor the transportation of passengers on one of the routes with the highest demand, from the Las Baleares Terminal to the José Martí Vocational School, at a modest fare of 10 pesos.

Julio César Coré Garcel, director of Taxi Agency 2 of Holguín, commented that these vehicles, which have an autonomy of 150 kilometers and a capacity of six passengers, will allow the daily mobility of around four thousand people without affecting the environment, since they do not use fossil fuel and only need to be charged once a day.

Participating in the tour were members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez and Joel Queipo Ruiz, recently elected first secretary in the province, Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguín, and other political and government authorities.
