Donation of medicines from US people to Cuba thru Holguín

Donation of medicines from US people to Cuba will arrive thru Holguin; an amount of more than two tons of medicines bought and collected in the United States of America through a project of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO) which are ready in Miami for shipment to this province, for later distribution to the rest of ther country.

According to Prensa Latina, this donation of medicines as a medical aid, which traveled from coast to coast, is already waiting in that South Floridian city for its transfer on July 18th together with the members of the Caravan of Pastors for Peace, which will celebrate its 33rd edition.

The caravanists will arrive to the archipelago through the eastern province of Holguin and will participate in the commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the attack to the Moncada barracks, whose main event will take place on July 26 in Santiago de Cuba.

The visit that will end on July 29 also includes a trip to Guantanamo, the easternmost Cuban province.

Founded by the late Reverend Lucius Walker, the Pastors for Peace caravans began in 1992 in open defiance of U.S. policies in the region and especially the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for decades.

In addition to IFCO’s medical aid initiative, several organizations are developing other projects in solidarity with the island, such as Hatuey, with its campaign for medicines for Cuban children with leukemia and lymphoma.

Global Health Partners, which was instrumental in sending six million syringes to Cuba during the Covid-19 pandemic, is now trying to join forces to send anesthesia supplies and sutures to a hospital in Havana.

For their part, the Bridges of Love movement and Code Pink organization are working to provide powdered milk to Cuba’s 22 pediatric institutions.

Gail Walker, executive director of IFCO/Pastors for Peace, once told PL that the caravans are an illustration of true people-to-people politics.

Never before, she said, has the U.S. government witnessed such a challenge to its anti-Cuban hostility.
