President of Filitalia International at Ibero-American Culture Festival   

Italian Dr. Pasquale Nestico, president of Filitalia International, arrived in Holguin, in eastern Cuba, invited to the 29th edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival, and kindly agreed to a talk for this digital site.

How did you receive the invitation to the Ibero-American Culture Festival?

“I feel very honored to be here. We are very happy to serve Holguin with humility and honesty, with Filitalia International. I thank the Casa de Iberoamericana for inviting me to this event of great international relevance”.

What is your impression of the city?

“I think the people I meet have a lot of humility. I am impressed by the sweetness in the way they speak and smile. I see a lot of elegance. I am delighted. Very happy to be in Holguin”.

Your presence will have important moments such as the official constitution of the Filitalia International Chapter. When did this association does this association arise?

“It arose in 1987, in the city of Philadelphia. There are 26 in the United States, Italy and Cuba. The first one in Holguín, from the Casa de Iberoamericana”.

You presented a book at the Ibero-American Congress of Thought, what is it about?

“The autobiographical book Da Isca a Philadelphia tells my story of when I left Italy with my father to the United States of America and what I have lived since that moment”.

What is the relationship of a cardiologist by profession and his family environment?

“Yes, I actually have a practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My daughter is also a cardiologist. It’s a beautiful family relationship with my children, grandchildren and wife.”

From your medical experience, what do you recommend to people with heart disease in Cuba?

“The most important thing is to walk and eat a Mediterranean diet that avoids obesity. Fats raise cholesterol and cause high blood pressure and diabetes. I suggest drinking coffee without sugar.”

The experienced doctor was born in the province of Calabria, Italy, has received decorations from the Italian Republic: Cavaliere in 2004, Commendatore in 2007 and Grand Officer in 2009, among other distinctions.

From Filitalia International he favors the attention to the Italian descendants acrods the world. The presence of a chapter in Holguin will make possible cultural exchanges on the topics of bell canto, architecture, traditions and the Italian language, among the topics of interest.

The XXIX edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival in Holguin is being held until October 30 with the participation of around one hundred foreign delegates.
