The tourism familiarization program (Megafam) to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Cuban Group of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators Havanatur concluded on Thursday with tours of places of interest in eastern Cuba, with Holguin in the spot of national and foreign experts.

After four days of exchanges, 400 tour operators, travel agents and specialized journalists had first-hand contacts with attractive places in eastern Cuba, with a view to boosting travels to this territory in the near future.

Experts visited Guardalavaca beach, the archeological site of Chorro de Maíta and Cayo Saetía, where they appreciated cultural, landscape, traditional and historic elements of an area that has a great impact on vacationers who visit Cuba every year.

Cuba has more than 80,000 rooms in some 400 hotels distributed throughout the country, with a special emphasis on sun and beach offers. Precisely, the eastern region and particularly the province of Holguin are the third most popular tourist destination after Havana and the coastal resort of Varadero, in the west.

Officials from the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) are making efforts to recover the travel industry after the strong impacts by the Covid-19 pandemic and the harsh measures taken by the US Government against Cuba in terms of finance, trade and economy.
