The first provincial conference on Cardiology was held today in the city of Holguin, as part of the training programs for this specialty, which is among the main causes of death in Cuba.
Reyber Jesús Domínguez Pérez, president of the Holguín Chapter of this branch, stressed to the press that this meeting is an opportunity to update on treatments for heart failure and atrial fibrillation, the main manifestations of these conditions.

The role of nutrition on the quality of the intestinal flora and preventive actions against atherosclerotic and hypertensive damage, included in the sequelae of diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer’s disease, were addressed in the meeting.
As part of the event, it was presented a research on premature aging and its incidence in the appearance of degenerative and cardiovascular diseases and their prevention through healthy lifestyles.
Under the slogan “Mind, soul, body and heart, united for better health”, the conference held at Vladimir Ilich Lenin Teaching Hospital is one of the activities for World Heart Day, celebrated annually on September 29.

Cardiovascular diseases involve the narrowing or blockage of blood vessels and their risk factors are age, family pathological antecedents, smoking and obesity.
Worldwide, it is among the main causes of death and Cuba is developing a broad program for its prevention and control from an early age, through an integrated system in primary, secondary and hospital care.
