Díaz-Canel closes CDRs 10th Congress

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, acknowledged on Thursday the success of the Summit of the Group of 77 and China, held in Havana last Havana last 15th and 16th, and described it as an event of global interest.

Díaz-Canel, that chaired the closing session of Cuban CDR’s 10th Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), emphasized that a large part of the triumph of the Summit was due in large part to the contribution of the Cubans, in spite of the contribution of the Cubans, despite the fact that detractors of the island the central theme of the Summit.

In the closing speech of the CDR Congress, the head of state saluted Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, ratified as national coordinator of the largest mass organization in the country.

In the event Rebel Army Commander José Ramón Machado was acknowledged by the CDR for his legacy that inspires the members that fight for the country’s unity.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Communist Party Organization Secretary Roberto Morales Ojeda also attended the closing session of the two-day Congress, held at Havana’s International Conference Center.

Guest delegations from Mexico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Spain, Ecuador, the United States, Brazil, and Russia were also present.

The CDRs are celebrating their 63rd anniversary on Thursday and are revitalizing their structures and adapting to the new times.

Since their founding, the CDRs have fought crime, illegality, corruption, drugs, and social indiscipline.

In order to confront these scourges, surveillance groups were set up in the communities.

The CDRs celebrate this September 28th the 63rd anniversary, immersed in revitalizing its structures and adapting it to the new times, as agreed in the Congress.

The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, announced the founding of the CDRs on September 28, 1960, in a speech in front of the former Presidential Palace (current Museum of the Revolution). They were established to defend the society in each neighborhood.

Since their founding, the Committees have fought crime, illegality, corruption, drugs, and social indiscipline. To confront these scourges, surveillance groups were formed in the communities.

At the opening of the 10th Congress on Wednesday, the organization’s National Coordinator and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández, emphasized that the CDRs can take on new tasks in defending the country.
