In the heart of La Mensura National Park, Guayabo Waterfall stands as one of the most impressive natural wonders in Holguin and Cuba. Both for its height and the rich ecosystem that surrounds it.
Located in Pinares de Mayari, within the Sierra de Nipe mountain range. This waterfall system reaches 127 meters in its main cascade and 85 meters in its secondary cascade. Placing it among the tallest in the country. Its waters, originating from the Guayabo River, descend between mountain formations at 546 meters above sea level. Creating a landscape of remarkable visual beauty.
The area is also distinguished by its biodiversity. Dozens of species of ferns and orchids grow on its slopes. Alongside timber trees such as the jucaro, oak, and majagua. The fauna includes endemic birds such as the Cuban trogon, the Cuban nightingale, and the Cuban tody. Which find favorable conditions for their development in this environment.
Access to the site is via trails that lead to the viewpoint and the area where the waterfalls converge. A journey of approximately one and a half hours. The climatic conditions, influenced by the northeast trade winds, contribute to the unique characteristics of the local ecosystem.
Due to its natural features and state of conservation, the Salto del Guayabo waterfall in Mayari, Holguin, is a landmark of Cuban environmental heritage. One of the most representative destinations in eastern Cuba.
