Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies begin in Tehran

Iran began in Tehran the official funeral ceremonies of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei. Assassinated on February 28th at the beginning of joint attacks by the US and Israel.

Iranian officials, a crowd of citizens and representatives of several countries participate in the official events. Held at the Imam Khomeini Mosque in the capital, according to local press reports.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and President Masoud Pezeshkian. Key figures in the country’s civilian government, paid their respects.

The ceremony began with a minute of silence and the recitation of verses from the Koran, amid tight security measures.

Heads of government, parliamentarians, foreign ministers and envoys from around 100 countries are expected to attend the funeral services. Which will last throughout the day.

Iran has announced a six-day funeral program. The public mourning ceremonies will begin on Saturday. When attendees will gather from 6:00 a.m. local time at the Imam Khomeini Mosque to observe a minute of silence and present their condolences.

The Iranian authorities plan to bury Khamenei’s remains next Thursday, July 9th, at the shrine of Imam Reza, in the city of Mashhad.
