The province of Holguin has secured 23 representatives for the Central American and Caribbean Games. To be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from July 24th to August 8th.
The delegation consists of 19 athletes who will compete in 13 disciplines. Plus four officials who will serve as referees, commissioners, and delegates. This number could increase when the baseball team is announced.
Also the list provided by Master of Science Salvador Hidalgo González, head of the High Performance Department of the Provincial Sports Directorate. It highlights the names of triple jumper Andy Hechavarría, a participant in this year’s most recent World Indoor Championships held in Toruń, Poland. The Cuban team includes footballer Marcos Campos, who participated in the U-20 World Cup. And taekwondo athlete Tamara Robles, champion of the 2018 Barranquilla regional event.
Also on the Cuban roster are athletes from Holguin: Andrea Fuentes (Rhythmic Gymnastics), Marlon Herrera (Judo), Ana Laura Jiménez (Rowing), Eddy Vázquez (Shooting). Luis Raúl Domínguez and Rafael Guerra (Softball), Elianet Crespo (Taekwondo). As well as Jhon Pablo Martínez and Yudislennis Lores (Pentathlon).
The group of athletes is completed by Evelin Díaz (Cycling), Melany Zaldívar (Diving), Erika Ibáñez and Dennier Infante (Sailing). Yaneisy Díaz, Yordan Danilo Ferrer, and Gisson Ricardo (Fencing).
Moreover the municipality of Holguin stands out as the territory with the largest contribution. With 11 athletes, followed by Moa, Mayari, and Sagua de Tanamo. Which each contribute two, while Baguanos and Cueto each have one representative.
The province will also have four officials present: Ángel Luis Leyva Columbie (Moa, boxing). Osvaldo Ávila Sansano (Banes, cycling commissioner); Enrique Hernández Toledo (Holguin, water polo referee). And Pablo Arturo Campins (Holguin, cycling commissioner).
The Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games are the region’s premier sporting event. The Cuban delegation will consist of 506 athletes, more than the 494 who attended San Salvador 2023.
