2025 Statistics Show Reduction in Workplace Accidents in Cuba

According to the report “Workplace Protection: Selected Indicators,” published by the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI). Also 664 workplace accidents were recorded in Cuba during 2025, resulting in 701 injured workers and 38 deaths. This figure represents a decrease compared to the previous year. Although accidents continue to occur in practically all economic sectors of the country.

Workplace accidents show marked regional differences. Havana accounted for 255 accidents. Equivalent to almost four out of every ten recorded nationwide. It was followed by Holguin, with 95; Santiago de Cuba, with 65. Guantanamo, with 39; Granma, with 35; and Camagüey, with 31.

This trend may be related to the concentration of workers, the industrial development of certain regions. And the volume of economic activity carried out in each province.

Sectors with the Highest Number of Accidents

Economic activity also makes a significant difference in accident rates.

Manufacturing industries recorded the highest number of accidents during 2025, with 112 cases. They were followed by Public Health and Social Assistance, with 93. Transportation, Storage, and Communications, with 71; Commerce, with 53; and Hotels and Restaurants, with 48. In terms of injuries, Public Health and Social Assistance accounted for 103. Followed by Manufacturing Industries, with 91, and Transportation, with 80.

However, when fatalities are analyzed, the picture changes. Construction, which is not among the sectors with the highest number of accidents. Recorded the highest number of deaths, with 10 workers killed. It was followed by Electricity, Gas, and Water; Commerce; and Transportation, with five fatalities each.

Of the total number of workers injured in workplace accidents during 2025, 213 were women and 488 were men. In percentage terms, men accounted for approximately 70% of those injured. A reality linked to the greater male presence in sectors traditionally considered high-risk. Such as construction, mining, transportation, and certain industrial branches.

Among women, the highest number of injuries were concentrated in Public Health and Social Assistance, Education, Hotels and Restaurants, and Commerce.

Cuban legislation establishes the obligation to guarantee safe working conditions. As well as the investigation of each workplace accident to identify its causes and prevent its recurrence. Even though statistics at the end of 2025 show a reduction in workplace accidents compared to the previous year. We cannot lose sight of all the shortcomings, and what can still be done, to protect those who, from their positions, drive the country forward.
