Incorporation of new solar parks into the National Electric System progresses in Holguin

The Holguin Provincial Electric Company is consolidating its contribution of clean energy to the National Electric System (SEN). With the stable synchronization of several photovoltaic solar parks. While also promoting new investments to expand generation and storage capacity.

For several months, the Corua, Providencia, Potrerillo, and Cueto solar parks have been operational. Providing a sustained supply of renewable electricity. These are joined by the Serones 2 site in the municipality of Mayari and the El Cocal site in Urbano Noris. Also both with a capacity of five megawatts (MW) and the result of a donation from the People’s Republic of China.

As part of the national strategy for changing the energy matrix, construction continues on new photovoltaic parks. Equipped with energy storage systems in this region, which will allow for greater stability in energy delivery.

Among the projects underway are Los Güiros (Gibara/Velasco), Los Cocos (Baguanos), and Serones 1 (Mayari). Each with a capacity of 5 MW and 1 MW of storage. Similarly, progress is being made on the Loma del Cedro park in the municipality of Rafael Freyre. Designed to generate 10 MW with 2 MW of storage.

At this latter site, priority is being given to inverter number four. Also where the greatest construction progress is concentrated. Of the 174 planned panels, 146 structures have already been erected, and 122 have panels installed. In the technological area, the grounding grid has been completed. While the main containers, battery systems, storage equipment, and other auxiliary facilities are 75 percent complete.

According to the planned schedule, inverter four could be energized during the month of July. While the total completion of the Loma del Cedro park is estimated for the end of September 2026.

The development of these projects reaffirms the commitment of the electricity sector in Holguin. For increasing generation from renewable sources, energy efficiency, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
