Neos lands in Holguin and reactivates direct air route from Rome

A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Neos Airlines landed this Thursday at Frank País Airport with 238 passengers. Re-establishing the direct air link between Rome and Holguin, the only nonstop flight from Europe.

The arrival of the inaugural flight was marked by a water salute. A tradition in aviation to welcome new operations.

The journey required a technical stop in the Dominican Republic. Also where the aircraft refueled due to the restrictions imposed by the United States’ energy embargo on the Cuban airport sector.

Moreover the Italian company will operate weekly flights on Thursdays and plans to consolidate Holguin as a gateway to eastern Cuba.
Of the 238 passengers, 131 are Cubans residing abroad who are returning to the archipelago.

Despite the limitations that still persist in local tourism, the reactivation of this connectivity lays the groundwork. For strengthening the sector and expands options for European travelers.
