Wards at the Clinical Surgical Hospital in Holguin to Reopen

Two wards at the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital in Holguin will reopen after renovations aimed at improving the comfort of the facilities.

Luis Mario Carrasco Feria, director of the institution, told the Cuban News Agency (CNA) that the investment exceeds 60 million pesos. Also it will have a positive impact on patient care and the improvement of services. Amidst the energy and resource crisis affecting the country.

The wards are dedicated to the specialties of neurosurgery and cerebrovascular surgery. In the latter, the medical equipment was also restored.

Carrasco Feria highlighted that the investment also includes the central surgical unit. Which in 27 years of operation had never undergone maintenance, and the furniture will be gradually replaced.

Moreover the hospital wards are in the final stages of construction and are expected to be operational next week, the director explained.

Other projects are underway at the medical center. Such as repairing the electrical system in the neurophysiology laboratory and upgrading spaces dedicated to various medical disciplines.

The investment and maintenance program in the public health sector covers medical offices, nursing homes, hospitals, and maternity homes. With an emphasis on vulnerable, rural, and hard-to-reach areas.

Although it is among the sectors most affected by the United States’ hostile policy toward Cuba. The sector maintains priority programs free of charge, such as the Maternal and Child Health Program and the Family Doctor and Nurse Program.
