Call from Holguin to celebrate May Day

The Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC) in Holguin this weekend urged its trade union movement to celebrate the coming May Day, International Workers’ Day.After the call was made public at national level by Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, member of the Political Bureau and secretary general of the CTC, in the eastern province the call for a celebration with unity and joy under the slogan “For Cuba, together we create” was replicated.

At the Empresa Filial de Bebidas y Refrescos Holguín (Ember), Idalmis Serrano Gómez, top union leader in the territory, read the document in which it is emphasized that the World Day of the Proletariat will be celebrated in the midst of the efforts for the economic recovery of the country and raising as always the banners of solidarity, which are raised with force this time for the Palestinian people.

The commemoration day coincides on this occasion with the organic process of the XXII Congress of the CTC, to be held in 2025, so a broad and intense plan of activities is planned from the trade union movement, which in Holguin includes more than 207 thousand workers.

The reading of the call in the different labor centers as from this week will be the prelude to days of homage to outstanding workers, plenary sessions, voluntary works and other actions to give strength and color to the World Day of the Proletariat.

The activities for the event will be a tribute to the legacy of union leaders such as Lázaro Peña, Jesús Menéndez, Aracelio Iglesias, Armando Mestre and Alfredo López, together with this year’s commemorations of the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, the 171st anniversary of the birth of José Martí and the 85th anniversary of the founding of the CTC.
