With the fair recognition to those who – in the midst of the country’s economic difficulties – devoted themselves to the fulfillment of their work and union duties during 2023, the provincial event for the Fishing Industry Workers’ Day was held in one of the halls of the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez Monumental Complex, in the city of Holguín.
The company Pesca Caribe won the worthy seat for the efficient management of sales to Holguín’s tourist sector and electronic commerce with other eastern provinces, informed the director of that entity, Alberto Bruzón Sánchez, who distinguished the results in the implementation of certified quality and accounting management, thanks to the preparation and dedication of the human capital, who, by registering high productivity indexes, were benefited by salaries and by the periodic distribution of profits.
These achievements were recognized by Oliday Frías Vega, general secretary of the Provincial Bureau of the National Union of Food Industry and Fishing Workers (SNTIAP), when she highlighted the unity prevailing among the 21 members of this collective, whose commitments and language are common, in the midst of the limitations caused by the US blockade, including the lack of appropriate vessels and fishing boats.
However, he pointed out that at this moment the production of fry is recovering and nobody is losing their vocation to serve their people, without stopping in the face of constant aggressions, threats and disinformation campaigns. He also recalled how many Cuban fishermen lost their lives and their boats when they were attacked on the high seas while carrying out their work. To forget is a sin, he added.
In the presence of Diosmany Cruz Morales, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguín and Yordanis Cruz Sánchez, from the provincial secretariat of the CTC, the letter of recognition and congratulations for the Day of the Fishing Industry Workers, signed by Jorge Luis Fajardo Casas and Alberto López Díaz and Alberto López Díaz, general secretary of SNTIAP and Minister of the Food Industry, respectively, was read.
In the activity, culturally enlivened by the young Claudia Delgado (singer) and Angélica Kindelán (saxophonist), the martyrs of the sector, Aracelio Iglesias Díaz and Rafael Cabrera Mustelier, the late Heroes of Labor of the Republic of Cuba, Sergio Sánchez Medina and José Raúl Proenza Pérez, were remembered with admiration and respect; and the voices of those present were raised for the definitive cessation of the holocaust committed by the Israeli army against the noble Palestinian people.
This closing act of the Day for the Day of the Fishing Industry Workers in Holguín was preceded by a wide program of activities in the labor collectives.
