Theater in the good lands of Tacajó

The town of Tacajó, in the municipality of Báguanos in the province of Holguín, is fertile land not only for sugar cane, but also for theatrical art, as it has been hosting for the past 11 years the National Theater Festival “En Tierra Buena”, a competitive event promoted by the José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors (BJM).

According to Julia Suarez Ramirez, provincial president of the BJM, the ninth edition of the event will take place from March 26 to 29, with the participation of more than 10 theater groups, four of them from Holguín: “Alas de colibrí” (Moa), “Pequeños Artistas” (Holguín), “Teatro con T” and “Tercera llamada” (Báguanos).

From other regions of the island will come the groups “Colibrí” (Villa Clara), “Ánima Teatro” and “Betto y su catalejo” (Santiago de Cuba), the Proyecto Teatral GIA (Granma) and two oral narrators from Las Tunas.

The young art instructor assured that “the people of Tacajo will be, once again, the protagonist of an event that maintains strong ties with local educational and cultural institutions, but that on this occasion intends to expand its horizons to communities with difficult access, thanks to the Guerrilla Cultural 50th Anniversary and the Movement of Amateur Artists”.

“In Tierra Buena” coincides, this year, with the realization of the XII Workshop for the Exchange of Experiences in the municipal structures of the BJM, attached to the vocation of constant improvement and commitment to community transformation that define its essence.

The inauguration of the National Theater Festival “En Tierra Buena” is scheduled for the morning of March 27, with a giant parade, the premiere of the theme song of the event and the special performance of the Oral Narration Company Palabras Al Viento.

This appointment of the country’s amateur stage movement was founded in 2013 on the initiative of Holguin-born art instructor Yanielki Batista Casquero, director of the “Ébano Teatro” group.
