The National Audiovisual Festival Por Primera Vez is in session in the city of Holguin until February 24, dedicated to film directing in Cuba and sponsored by the Provincial Film Center and the Provincial Directorate of Culture.

In the opening gala that took place this Wednesday night, the Cine Marti Cultural Complex was reopened by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Holguin province, Governor Manuel Francisco Aguilera and Yakelin Tapia Aguilera, provincial director of culture.
With the cutting of the ribbon, all the spaces of the Cine Marti Cultural Complex, where 2D films will be shown and artistic presentations will be held, are now functional, as well as Chaplin Cafeteria and the Ateneo Cinematographic Screening Room.
After Tapia’s words, the XVI edition of the Por Primera Vez National Festival was officially inaugurated, followed by the screening of the film “Buscando a Casal”, presented by its director Jorge Luis Sánchez, who will offer a workshop on film directing this Thursday.
During the first day and prior to the official opening of the event, the Ateneo Cinematográfico hosted workshops on Directing Assistance and Acting Direction by Kareline Pérez and Roly Peña, while at Café Tres Lucías a meeting with film critic Rafael Grillo went over films as a technique, industry, market and art.
During the Festival, Cine Marti will host the screening of the films “Fresa y Chocolate” (Strawberry and Chocolate) (restored) this Thursday at 8:00 pm with the presentation of actress Mirtha Ibarra, one of its protagonists, and “Cuentos de un día más” (Tales of One More Day), a film directed by filmmaker Fernando Perez.
