The XIV Gibara Environmental Film Festival, Jibarama 2024, runs from today until April 27 and will pay tribute to the EcoValor project for contributing to the continuity of the Caverns Film Festival from a more friendly perspective with the ecosystem of the homonymous municipality in Holguin province.

Poster, Environmental Film Festival, Jibarama 2024When in 2020 the Caverns Film Festival came to an end when damage was diagnosed in the ecosystem of the Los Panaderos cave, where it was taking place, the EcoValor project redesigned the continuity of this initiative in what is currently known as Jibarama.

Convened by the Provincial Film Center and the Cultural Directorates of the province of Holguín and Gibara, this edition will be dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC for its Spanish acronym) and will maintain as an essential objective the raising of people’s awareness of the importance of care and preservation of the environment.

During the days of the Festival, films, conferences and photographic exhibitions will be screened, and there will be visits to different ecosystems and six symposiums dedicated to community work, the gender approach, audiovisual production, the environment and local and sustainable agricultural development, each one with thematic lines.

On this occasion, the III Science, Technology and Environment Workshop will present research results that promote environmental protection and education throughout the country, as well as specialized conferences, pre-event courses, and posters.

The event program will also host an Endemic Bird Festival, and according to the organizing committee, this time its competitive nature will be suppressed, due to the complex economic situation that the country is going through.

Jibarama reinforces the vision of turning Gibara into a city of cinema, which promotes the care and conservation of the environment through scientific exchange, the seventh art and direct contact with nature.
