The advancement of medical care protocols and the improvement in the quality of basic services stand out among the commitments of the health system in the province of Holguín regarding May Day, to salute the International Workers’ Day.
In institutions such as Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital, programs are promoted in the specialties of Neonatology, Nursing, Pediatrics and Oncology, aimed at achieving better survival of infants receiving these services.
In addition, results are generalized for the implementation of community work and Natural and Traditional Medicine, together with the teaching training of new doctors, through vertical internships and other improvement programs, Eiliana Cruz González, specialist in that entity.
For its part, the University of Medical Sciences, the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias and the Center for Diabetic Patient Care arrive at the celebration of the world proletariat day with new achievements in the prevention and timely diagnosis of chronic pathologies through the identification of populations and risk factors.

The Health sector in Holguín is an example of research projects and protection of vulnerable groups of national and international reference and an exponent of the social programs promoted since January 1, 1959.
The celebration of International Workers’ Day has its origin in 1886, when a workers’ demonstration in Chicago, United States was repressed for demanding their rights, and since then the union organizations of many countries endorsed that date as a day of demands for improvements in their living conditions.
In Cuba it becomes a celebration of the labor movement to remember the legacy of the martyrs of the country and express support for the Revolution and its socialist character.
