UHo and Russia Strengthen Academic and Historical Memory Ties

In an effort to strengthen scientific and cultural cooperation. The University of Holguin (UHo) and Kuban State University recently hosted the virtual meeting “Preserving the Historical Memory of the Peoples of Russia and Cuba.”

The event took place within the framework of the 65th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón. A milestone that symbolizes the resistance and sovereignty of the Caribbean nation.

First, it is important to highlight that this initiative did not arise in isolation. On the contrary, it represents the consolidation of the roadmap established last October. Also when a delegation from the Russian institution visited the Cuban city of parks.

Thus, the online meeting served as a high-level platform where vice-rectors, deans, and specialists exchanged views on the importance of shared memory.

The strength of this connection was evidenced by the presence of key figures such as Inna Miroshnichenko, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Affairs at Kuban State University. And Alexander Evtushenko, Dean of the Faculty of History, Sociology, and International Relations.

Furthermore, the Cuban delegation emphasized its institutional commitment to internationalization. Under the leadership of the UHo’s Office of International Relations, along with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Center for Studies on Culture and Identity. A dialogue was established that transcends purely academic matters.

The topics addressed were not limited to the historical analysis of the Bay of Pigs invasion, but extended to the preservation of the intangible heritage of both peoples. The strengthening of joint research projects, and cultural exchange between students and academics from both regions.

Also this type of exchange strengthens the position of the Holguin academic community on the international stage. Consequently, the internationalization process of the University of Holguin (UHo) is reaffirmed as a vital tool for mutual understanding and scientific excellence.

This meeting between Cuba and Russia reaffirms that, beyond geographical distance, shared history remains the foundation upon which the bridges of the future are built. The UHo, true to its motto of “a space for growth,” continues to pursue alliances that enhance identity and shared knowledge.
