Cuban Higher Education is resuming its activities and will begin the 2026-2027 academic year on September 1st in all universities and institutions across the country. Including those belonging to other educational organizations.
This process will unfold amidst a national scenario marked by the worsening fuel shortage in the country. Caused by the sustained aggressive policy of the United States government against the Cuban people. Which has led to a tightening of the energy, financial, and economic blockade.
Faced with this reality, the Higher Education system has restructured its operations based on decentralization and a territorial approach. Meaning that teaching activities will essentially follow the academic organization implemented in the previous semester.
In the specific case of universities under the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), the enrollment processes for new students. As well as readmission and renewal of enrollment for continuing students. It will be organized from the students’ places of residence.
Students in national or regional programs may complete their registration procedures at the university or at the Municipal University Centers (CUM). And Municipal University Branches (FUM) in their province or municipality, either in person or online.
The educational process will be conducted in blended and distance learning modalities. Alternating, whenever possible, with periods of in-person instruction, primarily for students in daytime programs. In-person classes will be held at each university’s main campus. At the CUM, FUM, and/or local production or service organizations.
In the case of the blended learning program (CPE), both for higher technical and university degree programs, in-person meetings will resume at least once a month to guide and evaluate learning activities. Likewise, the distance learning program (CaD) will maintain its usual format.
As part of their comprehensive training, students will actively participate in socioeconomic activities in their municipalities and communities. With a special emphasis on the Community Youth Network.
The Ministry of Higher Education reaffirms to families its full confidence that the necessary pedagogical and organizational measures have been adopted. To ensure that young people progress and graduate successfully.
We urge the entire university community to stay informed through official channels, websites, and social media profiles of their respective universities. The University Centers (CUM) and University Foundations (FUM) in their region. Also where organizational details for each location will be publish.
With the conviction that the preparation of professionals is the guarantee of the country’s future. Higher Education reaffirms its commitment to the Revolution and to the comprehensive education that Cuba needs.
