The technical teams at the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant, located in Felton, Mayari, are promptly repairing a leak located in pipe number five of the rear wall of the dome.
The work on Unit 1, the largest generating unit in Holguin province and a key component of the National Electric System. It is part of the strategy to maintain the plant’s operational reliability.
Moreover the plant’s technical director, Víctor Hugo González Quiala, explained that the specialists are focusing their efforts on the comprehensive solution of 102 defects identified within the thermal structure.
The priority tasks on the critical path include the complex repair in the dome area. Also where welding and adjustment work is expected to be completed.
Simultaneously, crews are working to repair the high-pressure heaters to increase the machine’s efficiency and are fixing a leak in the deaerator, specifically in the feed tank.
These major tasks include the descaling and cleaning of superheater number one. Along with the preparation of other components that are crucial to the overall stability of the thermoelectric plant.
Also the intense workdays bring together workers from the plant itself, operators from the Power Plant Maintenance Company. And specialized construction workers from ECI-3.
During field inspections, political and government authorities from Holguin and Mayari verified the availability of supplies. The food service conditions, and compliance with workplace safety regulations.
Furthermore this test will be the defining step that will allow the generator to be authorized to start up. With its subsequent synchronization with the national electricity grid to be completed according to the required parameters.
The Felton Thermoelectric Plant has a damaged unit, Block 2, due to a fire in the summer of 2022. During the startup process following maintenance that was intended to add approximately 220 megawatts to the National Electric System (SEN).
