Russian scientists have discovered a previously unknown mineral whose value exceeds that of gold. The Ministry of Education and Science reported on Saturday.
The discovery was made at the Kirovskaya mine, located in the Khibini Massif on Russia’s Kola Peninsula.
The mineral contains yttrium, a rare-earth element. As well as calcium, manganese, and fluorine—a composition that distinguishes it from similar minerals.
Furthermore, its crystalline structure is among the most complex known to science.
According to the ministry, a thin layer of this mineral has an average value of $145 per millimeter, thus exceeding the price of gold.
