The first edition of the Martí Workshop for Holguin Residents concluded

The first edition of the provincial Martí Workshop for Holguin Residents concluded. With an invitation to participate in future editions and to continue raising awareness of the Maestro’s story.

This event, held in Holguin as part of the Day of Affection celebrations. It brought together teachers, researchers, workers, and students from various educational levels across the province for three days. Participants explored the life and work of José Martí. From diverse perspectives to delve deeper into the enduring relevance of his thought.

On the closing day, National Environmental Prize winner Cosme Casal Corella presented the book “Cajobabo Beach, Radiant Presence.” A work that commemorates the landing of Martí and Gómez at that very spot to begin the necessary war.

Also the text traces the entire journey to Playita de Cajobabo and recounts the story of the first peasant family that welcomed Martí and the expeditionaries. Significantly enriching our understanding of the events that took place at this emblematic site.

Concurrent with the presentation, the final committee sessions were held. This time with representatives from university students and researchers. These discussions addressed topics. Such as Martí as a journalist, the analysis of Martí’s pedagogy through his writings. The scientific and technical dimension of his work, José Martí as the intellectual author of Fidel Castro’s legacy. And his presence in Cuban philately. Thus demonstrating the multifaceted nature of his work that continues to spark academic interest.

As the day drew to a close, Eliel Gómez Martínez, president of the UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) in Holguin. Emphasized the importance of these forums for keeping the Apostle’s legacy alive. He also called on those present to expand initiatives that bring Martí’s ideas closer to new generations. Reaffirmed his commitment to continue working to make Martí’s figure increasingly visible in Holguin’s culture and education.
