Territorial Neonatology Workshop Held in Holguin

With the participation of professionals from eastern Cuba. The territorial Neonatology workshop was held in the province of Holguin. Dedicated to sharing the latest protocols applied in this specialty.

The event, held this Tuesday at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Teaching Hospital. Aimed to unify criteria regarding the care of newborns.

Ana Nastia Tamayo Álvarez, head of this service at the healthcare institution. She explained to the press that the meeting aimed to review the applied protocols. And share knowledge in the treatment of conditions such as respiratory distress.

She emphasized that the meeting included an administrative component for the analysis of organizational and procedural manuals. Essential for the procedures to be followed in the face of complications in newborns.

Also the specialist highlighted Holguin’s performance in diagnostic methods such as Doppler ultrasound. It was demonstrated during the exchange of experiences.

Tamayo Álvarez emphasized the importance of professional training and the subjective conditions affecting the service’s operation. Amidst the country’s difficult economic circumstances, which limit the acquisition of supplies.

Holguin has a regional neonatal surgery service that treats newborns from eastern Cuba with congenital malformations. Operating within the first hours of life. For several years, this service has maintained survival rates exceeding 95 percent.
