Holguin Workers Reaffirm Unity at Union Plenary Session

In a joyful atmosphere that not even the rain could dampen. Representatives from Holguin’s 15 unions held a plenary session. At the Major General Calixto García Íñiguez Stadium to commemorate International Workers’ Day.

The day was marked by the infectious rhythm of congas, traditional Cuban music, and slogans. That reaffirmed the union members’ commitment to the province’s economic and social tasks.

Furthermore the event was attended by Joel Queipo Ruíz, member of the Central Committee and First Secretary of the Party in Holguin. Along with leaders of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) and members of local organizations. He emphasized the importance of this date as an expression of unity and unwavering support for the Revolution.

Elaine Cruz Cobas, a healthcare worker, speaking on behalf of those present. Stressed that the homeland is defended from every front and that difficult times do not frighten. She described May Day as a day filled with beauty and symbolism. Reflecting the joy, responsibility, and historical memory of the Cuban working class.

In the same setting, Idalmis Serrano Gómez, general secretary of the CTC in Holguin, explained that the May Day celebrations began on March 21^st. And will continue until May 5^th. With numerous activities, tasks, and initiatives launched as a prelude to International Workers’ Day in Holguin.

She confirmed that around 200,000 workers are expected to attend the rally in the square. A figure that demonstrates the strength of the labor movement and the willingness of Holguin residents. To continue defending their achievements despite the difficulties.

Also she highlighted that the event has served as a platform to denounce the blockade. And that during this period, 896 blood donations and 112 volunteer workdays have been carried out. Actions that demonstrate the willingness of Holguin’s workers to contribute.

The event concluded with a call to maintain unity and work discipline as pillars for facing current challenges. Also where Holguin’s workers constitute an active force in building the future and an example of resilience for the country.
