Third Lupus 2024 Scientific Meeting to be held in Holguin

The Third Lupus 2024 Scientific Meeting will be held in Holguin from May 9 to 11. As in previous meetings, it will be held at Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital to provide a necessary update on the management of patients with this autoimmune and systemic disease.

The event will discuss scientific results of the medical practice of rheumatologists in the province in coordination with an important group of professionals from other specialties, mostly clinical, as they are related to the care of these patients.

On this occasion, the second degree specialist in Rheumatology and President of the Holguin Chapter of this specialty will provide recommendations for the treatment and follow-up of patients affected by this disease. Dr. Lázaro Ibrain Cobiellas Carballo, first degree specialist in Nephrology, will give an update on Lupus Nephritis and what the new guidelines say.

The meeting will be held on the occasion of the commemoration of World Lupus Day, this May 10, when purple garments, ribbons or butterflies will flood hospital centers around the world to make Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), which although considered a rare disease, is estimated to affect more than five million people globally, visible.

Since the first editions, families and patients, residents and students of health sciences careers have been invited to learn more about the disease, make it visible and become aware of it in order to achieve a better confrontation, treatment and follow-up of those affected.

It consists of an alteration of the immunity that causes an excess of proteins or antibodies that attack its own cells and organs.
