Festival Romerías de Mayo back in its 31st edition

Holguin is known for one of its most representative cultural events: the Romerías de Mayo; a festival that invites diverse international cultures to coincide for art in this point of eastern Cuba.

In a recent press conference, Armando Ruíz, president of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in the territory, and Yaquelin Tapia, provincial director of Culture, informed about the novelties of this event in 2024.

On this occasion, the Artistic Youth Festival will be dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Casa de las Americas and the Cuban Film Institute (Icaic).

As usual, it will be held during the first week of May -from May 3 to 8- and will start with the inaugural parade that will carry the Holguin Axe, symbol of the Romerías, to the highest point of the city.

According to Tapia, the pre-Romerías concert will be in charge of Tony Ávila and the closing of the event will be to the rhythm of Alexander Abre and Havana D’Primera.

Other musical talents will also perform at different venues of the Festival de Juventudes Artísticas, such as Polito Ibáñez, Dúo Iris, Nelson Valdés and Ron con Cola.

The meeting with the press was also attended by the main organizers of more than 12 events that make up the Romerías, who provided details of the various artistic expressions that will be present at the event in the near future.

Cámara Azul, a cinematographic event, will maintain its usual spaces for workshops, conferences and audiovisual screenings, and this time adds the movietheater Cine Martí to its locations.

Photography will be the protagonist of Babel, an event that brings together the plastic arts and that for this edition had a greater response to its call.

The Palabras Compartidas space will be dedicated to Emilio Ballagas, taking site of the Technology Center, where they will share with the young winners of the Calendar award.

DJ Whisper, organizer of Electroromerías, announced that the courtyard of the Unaicc in the city of parks will host the event with young exponents, as well as rap, fusion and electronic music proposals.

Memoria Nuestra has 10 researches and 4 participating projects from six provinces of the country. The thinking event includes workshops and conferences with panelists such as Abel Prieto and Omar Valiño.

The different events will be held simultaneously in areas prepared for the unfolding of the activities that, during the Romerías de Mayo, make the city of Holguin the artistic epicenter of the country.
