International Book Fair 2024 opened in Holguín

With an artistic gala that paid homage to the Federative Republic of Brazil as guest of honor, the 32nd edition of the International Book Fair was officially inaugurated this Wednesday in Holguin, to be held until March 24.

From the portal of the Provincial Library Alex Urquiola began the reading fiesta, dedicated this time to the researcher and historian Isabel Monal, to the writers Francisco Lopez Sacha and to Mayari born writer Emerio Medina, and to the tenth anniversary of Conciencia Ediciones editing house.

Yané Álvarez Rumo, director of this publishing house, in her opening remarks commented on the great history of this editing house which is part of the university community and highlighted the variety of the fair, which has more than 600 titles and 400,000 copies for sale.

This event takes place to please different audiences, to entertain authors and to recognize the work of the territories, with a wide program of activities that includes talks, literary presentations and panels, she emphasized.

The opening space counted on the performances of the folklore companies La Campana, of Oral Narration Palabras al Viento, the Symphonic Orchestra of Holguin and other representative artists of the territory.

As part of the program of activities, the Great Bookstore was also inaugurated, located at Plaza de la Marqueta, where for four days copies of the various publishers from Cuba and countries like Spain, Mexico and Peru will be sold.

The prize for the best edition 2024, organized by the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, will be awarded on March 23 at the Casa del Bolero to recognize the work of professionals in the sector and one of the most representative moments of the event.

Also, Emerio Medina, renowned and award-winning writer from Holguín, winner of the 2023 Julio Cortázar Ibero-American Short Story Prize, among other national and provincial literary awards, will be honored and will also participate in various spaces to exchange readings and experiences.
