With a massive participation, the main event in the province of Holguin for the celebration of March 8, International Women‘s Day, was held at the Sports Court of Reparto Villanueva II.
The celebration was attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province, Manuel Hernández Aguilera, deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power and Governor of Holguín and Elizabeth Martínez Quintero, secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women in the territory.
The event was also the official farewell to the Holguin delegates to the FMC Congress, who with their slogan “Holguineras vencedoras de lo Imposible” (Holguin women conquerors of the impossible).
Women there, highly enthusiastic, heard Osmani Viñals Garcia, first secretary of the PCC in the municipality of Holguin, who said in his address: “We worship you because you have always been faithful to Fidel Castro, you are indispensable and we count on you to continue strengthening our socialist Revolution”.
A group of 12 outstanding women received special recognition, among them Dr. Amalia Margarita Pupo Zúñiga, director of the Lenin Hospital, Aime Cabrera González, director of the Plaza de la Revolución Historical Complex, and Mailai Batista Pupo, agro-industrial worker of the “Lázaro Peña” cigar factory, among others.
Meanwhile, a group of organizations and institutions of the province, together with outstanding FMC blocks, presented awards and material incentives to each of the delegates from Holguin to the maximum event of their organization.
In the closing of the event, Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, the highest political authority of the province, stressed “how confident we are that this will be a historic congress for the moment that the Homeland is living, you will know how to represent the province very well, because we can always count on you, because you are winners of the impossible”.
The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), organization that groups women in the archipelago, will be celebrating on the 7th and 8th the IX FMC Congress in Havana, which will be attended by 28 delegates and five guests representing Holguin province.
