The 25th edition of the Celestino Short Story Prize, organized by the Hermanos Saíz Association and Ediciones La Luz, will be held from June 10 to 15 in the city of Holguín.
Luis Yuseff, editor-in-chief of La Luz, when presenting the call, announced that this time it is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the publication of “Flora and the Angel”, by Holguin writer Ruben Rodriguez, the 40th anniversary of the physical disappearance of Julio Cortazar, and the 110th birthday of the greatest storyteller, Onelio Jorge Cardoso.
As a way of making young people visible in the storytelling universe, all writers residing in the country up to 35 years of age can participate with an unpublished notebook that should have a maximum length of 45 to 70 pages, explained Lisset Prego, a specialist of the publishing house.
She explained that the originals will be received only through the mail 25premiocelestinodecuento@gmail.com, to which should be sent two separate files, one pertaining to the book in competition and the other to the escrow, duly identified.
Yuseff said that the prize will include a diploma, 10,000 Cuban pesos and the publication of the printed book and e-book by Ediciones La Luz, with the payment of the respective copyright.
With a jury made up of prestigious figures of Cuban literature, the works will be received until May 20 and the final result will be announced on June 14 at the “Open up the constellations” rock party.
Under the slogan “Celestino reaches the flight”, this contest, exceptionally, will include the fine arts after the call for entries to the poster contest “My name is Celestino”.
Those works of illustration or design that recreate the characters of the novel Celestino antes del alba, by Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas, whose protagonist gives name to the award, may participate.
