Canada friends support the Palestinian cause from Holguin

A forceful claim for the cessation of the genocide committed by the government of Israel against the noble Palestinian people had as protagonists, in the headquarters of ICAP in Holguin, by members of the Group of solidarity ‘Victoria Friends, of Canada, with the participation of several authorities and professionals.

Dr. Tareq Toame, who is studying a specialty at the University of Medical Sciences of this city, made a wide information about the long nightmare that his people have lived since 1948 when they lost all their rights due to the wrong decision of the UN to grant a piece of land for Israel to establish its State, at the request of the British government.

Once the Israeli State was established in that holy land, it began to expand, usurping territories and evicting its inhabitants, despite popular revulsion, because the US government supports Israel as a spoiled child; it has provided it with military equipment and encouraged it to continue its hostile and expansionist policy, explained Toame, expressing indignation at the little support his people receive from the majority of the 24 Arab countries.

And this lack of support for a people that has always defended peace and brotherhood among nations is as cruel as the aggressiveness of the Israeli army that, in a matter of 100 days, has caused the death of more than 24,000 Palestinians in Gaza Strip, especially children, women and the elderly, and it also attacks other countries in the Middle East.

Regarding the friends who do support the just cause of his people, Toame highlighted the members of the Victory Group, who carry out various activities in that Canadian city and promote their demands for peace through social networks.

He highlighted Cuba’s example to the world in terms of solidarity, dignity and resistance. A country that, in spite of the crude economic, financial and commercial blockade of the U.S. and being permanently slandered by the common enemy of the peoples, continues the chosen path and prepares professionals from different nations, as it does with young Palestinians who graduate as doctors and specialists.

¨… there is honor only in the satisfaction of justice¨.

The Master in Social Sciences and Axiology, Eliel Gómez Martínez, president of the provincial branch of the José Martí Cultural Society (SCJM) distinguished Palestine as the sacred land where Jesus was born and whose Christian vocation is shared by most of the inhabitants of this Caribbean archipelago.

He said that at the University of Oriente (Santiago de Cuba) and in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela he fraternized with young Palestinians and was able to learn more about the history and sufferings of his people, who are also victims of the negative propaganda of the media corporations, because in the world there is too much political cowardice to recognize which side is right.

He added that, Cuba’s support to the Palestinian people has been present in various scenarios and recalled what was expressed by the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, which took place in Durban, South Africa, on September 1, 2001:”Put an end as soon as possible to the genocide of the Palestinian people, which is taking place before the astonished eyes of the world. Protect the basic right to life of its citizens, its youth and its children. Respect their right to independence and peace, and there will be nothing to fear from the United Nations documents”.

Cuba reciprocates the solidarity it receives

In the meeting held at Holguin Icap, headed by its delegate, Lupe Isabel Fernández Ramírez and the members of the Victory Group, led by Renato (Randy) Caravaggio, who intervened, along with other of his colleagues, also participated Michael Walsh, member of the Table of Concertation of Quebec and Claudia de Souza Moura, of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba in Brazil, who will integrate the XXIX South American Brigade of Voluntary Work and Solidarity with Cuba.

In this atmosphere of friendship and solidarity, in which interacted, the delegate of ICAP and its officials, Yamila and Ivan; the Master in Sciences Ramon Collado, president of the Chair of Cuban Music, of the University of Holguin, presented a magnificent Software of the Cuban musical patrimony and other related artistic expressions. The software is the result of a research sustained for more than 20 years on the history of music in Cuba, in order to preserve that heritage in the face of the massive and active process of transculturation promoted by social networks and other means of communication.

Conclusion of a fruitful visit

The Canadian solidaristic friends thus conclude an intense program of activities since their arrival in this territory of eastern Cuba on the 8th of last month, during which they visited several educational, cultural and public health centers; a meeting with the provincial branch of the José Martí Cultural Society and a volunteer work in an vegetable garden.

They were also very pleased with the visit to the Hero City of Santiago de Cuba, where they honored the memory of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, where his remains rest, and the encounter with history at the Museum of the Clandestine Struggle.
