In a massive march from the Residence of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, young people, workers and students of Medicine showed their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, while demanding the end of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and proclaiming peace and brotherhood of Cuba with the peoples of the world.

Likewise, this December 9, a well-deserved homage was paid to the six members of the Movimiento 26 de Julio (July 26th Movement) assassinated in 1957 by forces of the government of Fulgencio Batista, while the struggle for the independence of Cuba was being carried out.
Manuel Ángulo Farrán, Rubén Bravo Álvarez, Atanagildo Cajigal Torres, Mario Pozo Ochoa, Pedro Rogena Camayd and Ramón Flores Carballosa are the names of the martyrs that Holguin people remember in the monument to the Seis Columnas (Six Columns).
Six truncated monoliths are erected at this historical site, reflecting how their lives were blinded by Batista’s tyranny 66 years ago.
Holguin people, tribute to martyrs, solidarity, palestinian people
During the cultural political event, Palestinian doctor Tareq Tóame, ophthalmology resident doctor with Cuban training, thanked the people of Holguin for their affection and solidarity and urged them not to give in to violence.
Yanet Hernández Aguilera, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Young Communist League (UJC) in Holguín, reiterated the support of Cuban youth for just causes and called on youth organizations around the world to join the demand for freedom for Palestine.
The participants expressed their support for peace in all forums, as well as for the right of the Palestinian people to the creation of their State, respecting the principles of self-determination, sovereignty and independence.
In the same context, warnings of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, regarding Israel’s policy of aggression, expansionism and colonial settlement were evoked.

The event was presided over by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in Holguín, Major General and Chief of the Eastern Army, Ricardo Rigel Tejeda; and Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, deputy to the Cuban Parliament and Governor of Holguín.
Representatives of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, of the Ministry of Interior and of mass, political and student organizations, as well as workers from education and other centers also expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
