Gibara was among the outstanding municipalities with the best results in the provincial emulation in Holguin for the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

Such recognition became a celebration among its residents and an occasion to highlight the work of the Education, Sciences and Sports; Industry, Communications; Health; Construction and Tourism unions.

Nayla Marieta Leyva Rodríguez, First Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Gibara, recognized the dedication and perseverance of the people of Gibara for the sake of local development that made these results possible.

For her part, Maricela Chapmán Suárez, General Secretary of the Cuban Workers Central in this coastal municipality, highlighted the effort of the people of Gibara despite the climatic and economic complexities faced in recent times such as the effects of heavy rains and resource limitations due to the impact of U.S. sanctions against the island and the low levels of national production.

Gibara is a tourist destination in which several modalities converge such as event, city, recreation and ecological tourism. This marine city has a development plan until 2030 that will place it among the most attractive in the northern coast of eastern Cuba.

Its local development is based on natural, patrimonial and historical-cultural values. The city has one of the most significant colonial architectural ensembles in the province.

Since 2004 its historic center was declared a National Monument.

Gibara has an extensive coastal strip, which extends from the beach of Los Bajos to El Mangle, on the border with the province of Las Tunas, with an ecological diversity.

This community is also a site of cultural reference for being the permanent headquarters of the Gibara International Film Festival, which has been held every year since 2002.
