For Dr. Yanet Pupo Estupiñán, a specialist in Intensive Care Medicine and Pediatric Medical Emergencies, the new government measures applied to the health sector are a motivation for its workers.

In an exclusive interview with the Cuban News Agency, the also deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power, said that the salary increase endorsed by guards, years of service and maximum effort are very timely in the current socio-economic scenario.

Considering the current conditions, tinged by the crisis, the lack of supplies and the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, these adjustments are a step forward to contribute to the stability of the workforce, said the specialist, who works in the Intensive Care Unit of the Pediatric Hospital Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja in the capital of Holguin.

Taking into account the current conditions, which are tinged by the crisis, the lack of supplies and the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, these adjustments are a step forward to contribute to the stability of the workforce, said the specialist, who works in the Intensive Care Unit of the Pediatric Hospital Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja in the capital of Holguin.

She emphasized that in this context, salaries are well below the purchasing power with the increase in the prices of products, which has conditioned the exodus of personnel in the sector and these projections represent an opportunity aimed at improving the quality of life.

She also stated that this incentive is very positive for active personnel because they have maintained their commitment and love for their profession, even in the midst of the complexity of the post-pandemic stage, in addition to encouraging improvement in the guild.

This salary increase will also contribute to the return of professionals who are currently working in other activities of the economy and services and may reconsider the possibility of returning to the sector, he said.

More than 409,000 professionals and technicians work in the Public Health sector in the country and the benefits will be extended to payments for years of service, assistance and teaching load, as well as medical guards, among other aspects.
