Holguin celebrates Cuban Science Day

The territorial delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) in Holguin celebrates Cuban Science Day classified as Outstanding in scientific production during 2023, for its positive results in the application of science, technology and innovation policies with impact on the country’s economic and social development.

In addition to the 11 territorial programs it develops, which have an impact on strategic sectors of the economy and society, a long list of results supports this recognition, according to Yordanka Hernández Osorio, Deputy Delegate of Science in the Citma delegation.

Among them, she mentioned the computer application and mathematical modeling for energy efficiency of laterite pulp pumping systems; contributions to the operation and maintenance of wind turbines in Cuba; economic valuation of coastal marine ecosystems in protected areas and tourist use and environmental management of the Nipe Cristal biological corridor for territorial planning.

She informed that the hydrogeological map of the municipalities of Gibara and Rafael Freyre was completed; the work done on the recovery of Guardalavaca beach and the climatic characterization of Holguín province.

PhD. Alejandro Torres-Gómez de Cádiz, Citma’s delegate in the province, highlighted the development of 17 circular economy initiatives in strategic sectors, which stand out for innovation as a transforming factor of the linear economic model towards a holistic one, and the importance of extending this experience to achieve the sustainable development to which the country aspires.

Other scientific advances are the consolidation of the provision of services of the Science and Technology Interface Enterprise of the University of Holguin (EICTSA) as a dynamic structure of innovation and the execution of actions aimed at strengthening the culture of science and innovation with emphasis on the pillars of the Government Management System.

The day of activities for Science Day will be extended until next February with the culmination of Expociencia Holguín 2024.

As part of the celebrations for this date the Publishing House of the University of Holguin, Conciencia Ediciones, will present a selection of texts that constitute researches associated to the scientific work in the province.
