Holguín Cisat recognized for its scientific results in 2023

The Center for Research and Environmental Services of Holguín (Cisat) received a recognition from the Environment Agency in Cuba for the results achieved during 2023 in terms of participation in events, increased intellectual property events, the increase of the center’s intellectual property, scientific production and institutional communication.

Martha Uratsuka, vice-president of the Agency, acknowledged Cisat’s progress in this northeastern region during the 2023 performance evaluation assembly, calling on them to continue working for the sustainable development of the country.

Cisat’s scientific results include the execution of several coastal management projects, archaeological restoration, and the impact of climate change, among others, carried out by its departments as well as the Comprehensive Research Mountain Station in Mayarí, and the Holguín Botanical Garden.

In this space, the longest-serving workers at Citma were recognized, the ministry to which Cisat belongs to, as well as the most outstanding ones during this year.

Cisat is an indispensable center in the application of science for environmental and natural resources management; its services and research have a favorable impact on the protection of the environment.

The center promotes, among others, projects for the exploitation of coral reefs and the control of invasive exotic species such as the lionfish, as well as other branches such as archeology.

This center, founded by Rosa Elena Simeón, then Minister of Environment, has an impact on the resolution of territorial problems, such as desertification, drought, loss of biological biodiversity and pollution.
