The capitals of Russia and Cuba will be once again connected by air starting this Sunday, after the departure from Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow of flight SU6849 of Rossiya Airlines bound for Havana.

It was not until last July 1st that operations were reestablished again by Nordwind airline, but so far only to the Caribbean nation’s tourist resorts of Varadero and Cayo Coco.

Recently, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernishenko detailed that thanks to the recovery of those flights, the tourist flow from Russia to Cuba increased 3.5 times between the months of January and October this year.

“Over the past year, we have achieved significant successes with our Cuban friends. First of all, there was a significant increase in the number of direct flights, making it possible for more than 146,300 Russian tourists to visit Cuba in that period of time,” the government leader specified.

Chernishenko’s statements were made at the International Russia Exhibition-Forum, where he moderated a seminar dedicated to the presentation of the opportunities for national companies to do business in the Antillean country.

In this regard, he argued that with the departure of the first flight to Havana on December 24, there would be about 13 direct weekly frequencies to different Cuban destinations.

At 08:40 local time this Sunday, the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft took off, which is expected to arrive at the José Martí International Airport of the capital of the largest of the Antilles at around 3:00 p.m. These frequencies will also be repeated on Wednesdays.
