Sugarcane harvest starts in Holguín

The ceremony for the beginning of the 2023-2024 sugar harvest in the Cuban province of Holguín took place today at the square of Cristino Naranjo sugar mill, in the municipality of Cacocum, which began milling, together with “Fernando de Dios” sugar factory in the town of Tacajó (Báguanos), bothy engage in the short-term harvest.

Diosmany Cruz Morales, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, presided over the event, together with local government leaders and Yoania Merencio, coordinator of AZCUBA buisness group in the province of Holguin.

Ramón Aguilera Ávila, director of the “Cristino Naranjo” sugar company, speaking to those present, affirmed that they were able to overcome the difficulties to successfully complete the repair of the industry, as well as the machinery and equipment to be used in the harvesting of sugarcane from the sugar cane fields of the local cooperatives; in addition to the raw material to receive from “Urbano Noris” company.

Aguilera Ávila added that the sugar cane harvest is expected to last 117 days, without stopping the sugar cane planting and food production.

After December 20, milling should start at the “Fernando de Dios” mill and from January and starting in January, gradually, the “Urbano Noris” in San Germán and the “López López of San Germán and the “López Peña” of Báguanos.
