The National Baseball Commission convenes a new edition of the Club Champions Tourney, with the participation of the fifteen provincial champions, plus the holder of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, will be held between January 19 thru February 12, 2024.
The event will be played under the single elimination system with three-game subseries, with seven-inning doubleheaders on Saturdays and nine-inning and single nine-inning games on Sundays. The first games will be played on Saturday, January 20 and Sunday, January 21, with clashes between neighboring provinces.
On that occasion, in the Eastern zone the champions of the following provinces will play vs each other Santiago de Cuba-Guantánamo (Series 1): Holguín-Granma (Series 2); Las Tunas-Camagüey (Series 3) and Sancti Spíritus-Ciego de Ávila (Series 4).
In this first phase, the Western section will be contested by the following teams: Villa Clara-Cienfuegos (S-5), Matanzas-Mayabeque (S-6), La Habana-Isla de Juventud (S-7). de la Juventud (S-7) and Artemisa-Pinar del Río (S-8).
Thus, the eight winning teams in the first stage will play each other, also in three-game sub-series, on January 27 and 28.
The quarterfinals will be contested by the winners of Series 1 and Series 2, as well as the winners of Series 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Series 2, as well as those of Series 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8.
The four winning teams will play the semifinals, on February 2 and 4, the winners of each zone will battle for the title on February 11 and 12, that same month.
The call of the National Baseball Commission specifies that each province will register 32 people, including 25 athletes, a director, two assistants and a coach, as well as a pitching coach, a physical trainer, a delegate and a batsman, the delegate and the bat loader.
The announcement adds that the Technical Commission may exceptionally may exceptionally authorize the participation of an athlete who does not comply with the participation regime in all its stages.
The tourney of champion baseball clubs enjoyed, at the time, great popularity among the baseball fans, and in our province it had its greatest expression with the historic title won by the Vaqueros of Calixto García, which is inscribed among the great feats of baseball for the homonymous municipality and Holguin province.
