The legacy of Ramon Acosta for culture in Calixto Garcia

A pride for culture in the municipality of Calixto Garcia, in the province of Holguin, is poet Ramon Acosta Almaguer, who has written hundreds of Decima poetry, sonnets and free verses dedicated to the most dissimilar subjects of the daily life.

In his book Con permiso de Dios, the also cultural promoter shows his virtuosity in weaving verses that attract the most reluctant reader.

According to experts, the work Con Permiso de Dios is conceived through the Decima poetry, where a man faces the social problems of the world with a materialistic vision, it contains a multiplicity of themes ranging from the dreams of man, death, pain, peace, love in its most universal sense, denunciation, to the barbarity of war.

For the poet Ramón Acosta, Buenaventura and Velasco are twinned because they are united by love, the “décima”, verses of great popular roots, and the fragrance of the countryside.

Gilberto Cruz Rodriguez is a nationally and internationally recognized writer from the latter town, who has written books about the rural environment, the rescue of the traditions of his people, folklore and the “décima”. For this approach, the fiery verses of this local poet vibrate.

Buenaventura and Velasco/Mecca of the verse and school/Where the spinel has the spinel/A diamond rock/Nine muses on the hull/patrimonial of the rhyme/they beat tropes, magic, esteem/And even an infinite angel/the Mecca, blessed place/arrived struggling to the top.

Diverse themes are present in the poet’s work. It is distinguished an exalted culture and lexical richness of its author, who in spite of visual inconveniences is supported by a privileged memory.

The also Illustrious Son of “Calixto García” has published in national and foreign magazines, and among other recognitions is included in the Antología de la Décima en Holguín, in the book Mínimas Noticias, of the publishing house of this province.
