Transformation of Cuban press debated at Upec 11th Congress

The 11th Congress of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) will come to an end this Friday at Havana’s Conventions Center. For two days, the main objective of the in-depth debates has focused on analyzing the transformations towards the new model of press.

With the presence of the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as well as more than 270 delegates and guests, Cuban media professionals are looking at the crisis that the press model is going through, in search of a path for editorial transformation.

For a Journalism that resembles Cuba

In the course of the debate, the experiences of media outlets such as the Cuban News Agency (Agencia Cubana de Noticias) and Cubadebate have come to light; in which they have gone thru new forms of editorial management, both economically and technologically.

The conclave of Cuban journalists analyzes the training of professionals in the field of journalism, taking into account the experiences of the university colleges and the necessary modifications in the study the majoring program.

In addition to the complexities faced today by the practice of journalism, the health situation and the low pensions of retirees, relevant issues that cannot be ignored in the midst of the changes that are taking place in the Cuban press, are added to the debate.
