The Engineering and Design Company, Vertice, in Holguin, completed the replacement of R-22 refrigerant gas in its air conditioning equipment. And received provincial recognition for its contribution to ozone layer protection.
Also the company has an integrated management system certified by the National Standardization Office (ONN). This certification validates its design, consulting, surveying, and construction management services.
Yoandra Hernández Reyes, specialist in the entity’s Integrated Management System and Environment. She explained that the company holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications. These certifications confirm its commitment to quality, the environment, and worker safety.
“For us, excellence is not only about the engineering services we provide. But also how we provide them,” stated Hernández Reyes.
The company’s main environmental action was the replacement of R-22 refrigerant, an ozone-depleting substance. The change was made in the last six air conditioning units that still used this compound. They now operate with R-407A.
According to the specialist, these units guarantee employee comfort and the conservation of internal resources. The company offers automated services, and computer-aided design requires suitable climate conditions to protect computer equipment.
This work earned Vertice provincial recognition at the World Environment Day event on June 5th. The award highlights the elimination of R-22 and the company’s contribution to the provincial plan and the Cuban State Plan, Tarea Vida (Task Life).
Hernández Reyes noted that the company has already completed the elimination of polluting gases. “We reaffirm our commitment to a sustainable future,” she said.
The environmental work also extends to the community. The company maintains a relationship with the Mario Pozo school, located next to the factory. The team conducts talks and educational activities to teach students about the importance of caring for the environment and the ozone layer.
“We believe that educating new generations is key to a sustainable future,” the specialist added.
Moreover the company is a candidate for the National Award for the Protection of the Ozone Layer. The award will be presented on September 16th, World Ozone Layer Preservation Day.
