No to US blockade on Cuba heard at the UN

The United Nations General Assembly that is meeting in a plenary session to debate and vote on a draft resolution that calls for an end of the US blockade on Cuba has heard the voice of nations that support in its fight against the criminal act of economic war.

More than 50 speakers took the floor on Wednesday, where they rose their voice against the restrictive measure implemented for over six decades.

On behalf of the Group of 77 plus China, Uganda urged the United States to lift the criminal economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed against Cuba.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) called on the USA to comply with UN resolutions and lift the blockade on Cuba, Azerbaijan’s representative, Yashar Aliyev, said at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

For her part the speaker from the Republic of Namibia, that in her speech demanded the end of the blockade, also denounced Cuba’s inclusion on Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism list.

On this issue, she called for Cuba’s removal from the list since there is no justification for its continued inclusion on it.

“We demand an immediate end to Cuba’s arbitrary and unjust inclusion on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list”, the ambassador of El Salvador, Egriselda López, said on Wednesday.

Speaking on behalf of the Central American Integration System (SICA) at the debate on Cuba’s draft resolution, entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” at the United Nations General Assembly, the diplomat called for the reversal of the measure that increases the impact of the blockade against the Cuban people.

She stressed that from Cuba we only know solidarity, warmth and humanity in its help to Central American countries.

Likewise, Eritrea described as a shame for multilateralism the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government on Cuba for more than 60 years.

On behalf of the Group of Friends of the Charter, Mariam said that the blockade against Cuba is one of the most serious, prolonged and systematic violations of international law and the UN Charter.

She explained that despite repeated requests for its elimination, the effects of this unilateral policy on the Cuban people have worsened in recent years to undermine the Revolution.

On November 1rst and 2ns, Cuba is submiting a draft resolution to the United Nations that demands an end to the genocidal blockade against our people.

For the 31st time, the international community will denounce it and take a stand to end the longest, most ruthless, illegal and shameful blockade known to humanity.

Humankind had not heard Martin Luther King deliver his speech “I have a dream”, man had not traveled to the Moon, the first heart transplant had not been performed, the Internet did not exist, we did not know The Beatles, but the people of Cuba were already suffering from the consequences of the United States Government’s blockade.
