Ibero-American Congress of Thought Inaugurated in Holguín

The XVIII Ibero-American Congress of Thought was inaugurated on Thursday with the awarding, post mortem, of the distinction “Casa de Iberoamerica” to the Cuban intellectual and revolutionary Armando Hart, within the program of the Ibero-American Culture Festival in Holguin, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the foundation of this Institution.

The award was received by Eloísa María Carreras Varona, director of the Armando Hart Dávalos Archive and House Museum and widow of the eminent thinker, who also gave the lecture “Hart, una vida y un sueño hecho realidad en la Casa de Iberoamérica” (Hart, a life and a dream come true at the House of Ibero-America).

PhD Carreras, in a presentation on the ideology that Hart defended throughout his life, highlighted the fundamental role of this event as an integrating project to promote the Hispanic American identity from justice and cultural legacy.

She emphasized on the influence of Fidel Castro Ruz and José Martí throughout the entire career of Hart who was also a leader of the 26th of July Movement and felt the politics and moral ethical legacy of the Centennial Generation among the greatest motivations of his life.

In the opening remarks of the Congress, which took place at Marti movie-theter, Isairis Rojas Paris, president of the Organizing Committee of the Ibero-American Culture Festival, defined the space as a symbol of overcoming differences that turn Holguin into the capital of art and philosophy in this region.

The Ibero-American Congress of Thought, founded in 2005, arises from the need to establish dialogues among the nations of the region for theoretical and scientific debate.
