Cultural traditions in Ibero-American parade in Holguin

As one of the most awaited spaces in the context of the XXIX Ibero-American Culture Festival, the usual parade went through central streets of the city of Holguin to show the most autochthonous of the cultural traditions of the countries invited to this edition.

From El Quixote Park to the House of Ibero-America converged, this Wednesday, diverse cultures that, with originality and colorfulness, demonstrated the strong bonds that integrate the peoples of the region.

Isaíris Rojas París, president of the Organizing Committee, in her opening remarks, said that there are currents that disdain the value of life, ancestral traditions and the right to defend one’s identity, but true art is the symbol of overcoming the differences of peripheral cultures.

The local talent was represented by the students of artistic education, in addition to the American trumpeter Leon Quincy, the flamenco companies Monica Dance and Encuentro, and the Provincial Concert Band under the baton of Daniel Sosa.

On this occasion, the Filitalia International project arrived in Holguin for the first time, as well as the Community of Albino People of Eastern Cuba and a folkloric group that, representing Chile, offered the public one of its traditional dances.

The contemporary dance company Codanza, the group La Campana and the project “Fantasías”, with acrobatics and circus varieties, were part of the parade, which also included performances by the groups Azul Cima and Bella Voice.

Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Casa de Iberoamérica, the Festival commemorates the encounter of cultures that took place after the landing of the Great Admiral Christopher Columbus on the island of Cuba on October 28, 1492, in the Bay of Bariay, located in the municipality of Rafael Freyre, in the province of Holguin.
